About GSGBO
THE LEAGUE
Garden State Gay Bowling Organization (GSGBO) is a social, mixed bowling league open to all bowlers, regardless of sex, race, religion or sexual preference. We bowl every Tuesday night (except holidays) at 9:00 p.m. from September through May.
We have much more to offer than just bowling, including fun bowling nights, trips, and other events! We are also active in local community events and charitable fundraising, so stop by and see what we are all about!
•GSGBO is a social bowling league and welcomes any person regardless of their sexual orientation, who wishes to participate
•Skill level is not a factor in GSGBO as we welcome all who wish to participate and learn the sport of bowling
•GSGBO uses a handicap scoring system that places all bowlers on a nearly equal scoring basis
•We bowl as 3-person teams and welcome individuals as well full teams to sign up
•We are sanctioned by the USBC (US Bowling Congress) and are a member of the International Gay Bowling Organization (IGBO), as well as annually co-sponsoring a local gay bowling tournament, the Gotham Open, which we host every other year
•As a social league, we will be holding or participating in several social events throughout the season including our Halloween, and Holiday parties, and our season-ending banquet
•Dues are set at the Start up meeting
•33 Week Season (September thru May)
•Cash Prize Fund
•Off-lane Social outings
•Raffles, Lucky Ball and Brackets as well as a few new games will be offered during weekly bowling
•One mid-year position night and two year-end position nights
•Standing and bowler's statistics are usually available to all bowlers via the internet usually within 24 hours
NATIONWIDE HUDSON LANES
GSGBO bowls at Nationwide Hudson Lanes (1 Garfield Ave., Jersey City, NJ) which is conveniently located on the Jersey City/Bayonne border.
Directions: Take Exit 14A off the NJ Turnpike Extension/Rt. 78. Make your first right turn at the traffic light just beyond the toll booths. Go to the next traffic light and make a right onto Broadway (Garfield Ave). Nationwide Hudson Lanes is located just beyond the next traffic light on the left hand side.
Hudson Lanes serves as the host lanes for the Gotham Open Tournament on alternate years and served as the venue for the bowling competition in the 1994 Gay Games NY.
GSGBO MISSION STATEMENT
GSGBO’s mission is to further the advancement of sports participation with the gay and lesbian community without regard to sex, race, religion or sexual preference, with regard to the following codes:
•To provide a formal mechanism to establish, organize and participate in activities in an atmosphere of accredited sports participation
•To provide a forum by which gay people who have a desire to participate in sports activities, regardless of the individual’s abilities, may do so
•To promote goodwill, understanding, and friendship within the populace
•To provide organized common interest facilities to those with a desire to participate
•To establish a unified, organized, and viable group of individuals into a cohesive working unit that will help each member maintain a high level of respect in oneself, the community, and the nation in which we live
